M&S Pride flagship window

Original idea: the window starts off with just the names 'Mark' and 'Spencer', plus a glitterball heart...

Original idea: staff then invite customers to write little love notes...

Original idea: each note is then hung in the window as a kind of performance art

Original idea: the Pride flag in love notes. And of course Mark loves Spencer...

This is a simplified version of the original idea, which is what M&S ended up going with.

Description

M&S wanted a window to celebrate Pride in their flagship Oxford Street store.

My idea was ‘Mark [hearts] Spencer’, with a big glitterball heart and lots of love notes in the window from customers passing through the store. The window would start out empty, and a merchandiser would collect the notes, and gradually add them to the display to create the colours of the Pride flag… an organically growing piece of fabulous high street performance art.

The idea was simplified to fewer, non-customer-generated notes and names, still in the colours of the flag – with a metallic heart (no glitter, boooo) – but still looked fun and eyecatching.
